Nova Scotian cannabis producer, Aqualitas Inc., is partnering with Sana Packaging in Colorado to provide sustainable packaging for its products.

Aqualitas announced on Feb. 16 that it will be working with Sana to launch new packaging created from 100 per cent reclaimed ocean plastic that can be recycled. It will also be inserted into Sana’s HempPress hemp paperboard box.

“Our first packaging order succeeded in reclaiming 2 tons (4,000 lbs) of plastic from the ocean,” said Aqualitas CEO Myrnas Gillis. “From our Clean Green certification, to using environmentally-friendly packaging and using compostable mailers to fulfill medical cannabis orders, our team is always looking for ways to be more sustainable in how we cultivate, process and package our products.”

Sana is a sustainable packaging company that uses plant-based hemp plastic, reclaimed ocean plastic and other sustainable materials to store cannabis products. This is the first time the company’s packaging will be entering the Canadian cannabis market.

“We’re excited to partner with Aqualitas and increase our footprint in the Canadian cannabis market,” said Ron Basak-Smith, co-Founder and CEO of Sana Packaging. “With the help of our incredible customers, we have already removed more than 58 tons (116,000 lbs) of plastic waste from our oceans.”
