Extraction company, Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc., received Health Canada authorization to apply for FDA registration for its plant-based hand sanitizer formulation.

Amid the continuing COVID-19 crisis, the Laval, Que.-based company is working to commercialize a line of natural, plant-based hand sanitizer products to meet demand. The product will be formulated at the company’s production and processing facilities in Sherbrooke, Que. and Conover, N.C., and also with the help of its contract manufacturing partners.

Health Canada issued Neptune a product license and Natural Product Number (NPN). Now, Neptune is sourcing new supply of raw material inputs to ensure ample product supply for a summer 2020 launch.

Neptune intends to sell its hand sanitizer formulations to consumer-packaged goods (CPG) brands as well as retailers seeking private label owned brands in the U.S. and Canada. The company also plans to supply the U.S. and Canadian governments and healthcare systems with sanitizer products through both direct and indirect channels.
