Sundial to launch chocolate edibles with new Choklat partnership
November 11, 2020 By Grow Opportunity staff
Sundial Growers Inc. has entered into a sales and distribution agreement with chocolatier, Choklat Inc.
The two Alberta-based companies are looking to launch a cannabis-infused confectionary brand that offers chocolate bars, drinking chocolate and infused sugar, all containing 10mg of THC. According to Sundial’s press release, they are hoping to release the first of its products in Alberta in time for the holiday season.
“We quickly understood that to expand our portfolio and enter the edible market, we needed to seek a reputable partner with tremendous expertise on craft chocolate confections,” said Zach George, Sundial CEO. “This partnership allows us to further leverage our sales and distribution capabilities and infrastructure with low capital intensity. We are excited to partner with an established Alberta brand such as Choklat to provide products that will appeal to chocolate and cannabis lovers.”
Choklat will produce and package the products, while also using its sales and distribution infrastructure to get the products on retail shelves in 110 participating grocery stores licensed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis agency, and on CannMart.com. The craft chocolate manufacturer received its Health Canada producer licence in January this year. It is currently producing its own cannabis-infused confections, Phat420, in a 6,000-square-foot facility in Calgary.
