Nutrient Deficiencies in Cannabis: Visual Identification

Speakers: Bill MacDonald and Monica Maille

This session will help you to identify nutrient deficiencies in cannabis using visual clues. Nutrient deficiency research trials have been conducted at Niagara College’s “CannaBunker” on all of the primary macronutrients. The data gathered in these trials will be presented along with tips on how to avoid nutrient deficiencies.


Bill MacDonald, MSc, Professor and Coordinator of the Commercial Cannabis Production program at Niagara College.

Bill is the coordinator of the Commercial Cannabis Production program at Niagara College and teaches exclusively into this one-of-a-kind program. He has spent his entire career in the greenhouse industry, which has included managing a 10 acre floriculture greenhouse, owning and operating a wholesale greenhouse, consulting in the Cannabis industry with his consulting company, Achene Consulting, and teaching at Niagara College.

Bill obtained his BSc (Agr) and MSc from the University of Guelph and is currently Special Graduate Faculty at the U of G. He continues his love of research by working with the post graduate Commercial Cannabis Production students in the specially designed “CannaBunker” at Niagara College.


Monica Maille, BSc, Commercial Cannabis Production program at Niagara College.

Monica Maille was born and raised in a small Northern Ontario town called Temiskaming Shores.She holds a BSc in Biology from Laurentian University and is a graduate of the post graduate Commercial Cannabis Production program at Niagara College. Since completion of her post graduate program in December, Monica has been working with a Licensed Producer in the Niagara Region, and has just recently achieved the role of AQAP. Throughout her studies, Monica has learned many aspects of the cannabis industry, including plant science and physiology, entomology and bio-control, pathogens and PCP’s as well as the Cannabis Act and Regulations and Inventory Management. Monica has always wanted to make a positive impact in the world and to be a leader in her community, what better way to achieve her goals than in the cannabis industry!
